Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works from both own designs and designs of others, compiles data, performs design computations, makes quantity take-offs, and assists in preparation of cost estimates.
  • Drafts interpretation of own design into completed working drawings and applies design fundamentals.
  • Develops project details, prepares selections and adapts to alternatives.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the discipline's codes and studies non-routine code issues.
  • Performs production of construction documents.
  • Performs routine design calculations for the review of the project engineer/architect and prepares basic layouts.
  • Has occasional external customer contact.
  • Participates in continuing education and training to develop and apply innovative ideas and keep abreast of state of the art technology (e.g. evaluate and learn new software packages).
  • May direct the drafting effort, within own discipline and coordinate work effort with other disciplines.
  • May research equipment selection or materials and provide information to project engineer/architect for specifications.
  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Position Type: Contract / Regular Full-Time
Minimum Education and Experience: Associate's Degree / DIRECT / 3-5 OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • AutoCAD 2010 or higher.
  • MicroStation a plus but not required.
  • AutoCAD Electrical a plus but not required.
  • AutoCAD Plant 3D a plus but not required.
  • Revit a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication and technical skills.

Position Summary SSOE Group is seeking an experienced electrical controls designer for our Portage, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio office locations. In this role, the designer will prepare schematic diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and cable schedules as directed by the supervising engineer. The candidate must be comfortable working in AutoCAD, be familiar with controls systems and materials, as well as have strong communication skills.
