SSOE is seeking an Electrical Designer for our Tool Install program. This position will be primarily located on a local client’s site. In this role, the designer will be responsible for applying standard design techniques and procedures within AutoCAD 2D to design wireways, cable trays, storage boxes, and conduit.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Applies standard design techniques and procedures, while exercising judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and assistance in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
  • Prepares addendums and bulletins.
  • Adapts designs to current conditions in field and coordinating designs with current infrastructure.
  • May attend construction meetings and site observations. May trouble-shoot design problems in the field during construction process.
  • Researches design options for project engineer/architect.
  • Checks design calculations and drawings, while verifying all applicable codes have been incorporated.
  • Processing shop drawings and checking to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • May have communication with external clients.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree / DIRECT / 0-2

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Utilization of CAD software to draw wireways, cable trays, storage boxes, and conduit runs for routing plans. Experience using Easy Power a plus.
  • General knowledge of different types of electrical breakers, transformers, and panels.
  • Understanding of short circuit calculations, panel loading, and voltage drop preferred, but not required.
  • General understanding of NEC.
  • Knowledge of general telecom and life safety system requirements.
  • Able to conduct field verification for routing plans. This includes climbing ladders, and performing verification work in tight quarters- while wearing a cleanroom suit.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
