Position Summary

As a Mid-level Mechanical Engineer, you are at a pivotal point in your career. The ultimate goal for our engineers to hold an active, vital role in our project delivery designs. This can be as a design engineer, discipline lead, Project Manager or Subject Matter Expert (SME). You will partner with your manager to determine the direction in the company you want follow. Many of our senior engineers/leaders in the company started as a co-op/intern or joined us right out of college, and navigated themselves to where they are today.

Many professionals at SSOE are held in high regard in their discipline and/or field. They can be seen in industry publications such as ENR, Processing Magazine, BD+C Magazine, Security Systems News (just to name a few), present at Autodesk University or for affiliation groups or professional societies and more.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the engineering, design and installation of material handling systems largely involving client products. Work closely with SSOE and client project manager(s) for the design and installation of the systems.
  • Travel to client facilities for gathering of initial proposal information, actual project data, review meetings, construction support and commissioning.
  • Perform studies on material handling systems and recommend changes such as eliminate bottlenecks, capacity increases, product size and mix changes, labor reductions, etc.
  • Developing conceptual systems with sizing and specifying equipment.
  • Recommend machine design changes to existing material handling equipment and systems.
  • Work with designers to develop equipment changes and develop construction documents.
  • Work with equipment vendors on equipment capabilities and specifications.
  • Lead outside material handling engineering resources when required as project load dictates.
  • Develop proposals, scopes, cost estimates and schedules.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 3-5
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Machine design aptitude
  • Developing specifications and construction contract documents.
  • Utilize good mechanical engineering practices
  • Self starter and takes initiative
  • Manages project workload
  • Experienced in working in a deadline environment.
  • Communicates well.
  • Good people skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proven project delivery through development of proposal, scope, budget, schedule, estimate and performing commissioning.
