The Instrumentation and Controls Designer will interface directly with our Project Managers, and multi-discipline design team to provide design services for our clients in the High Tech industry.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine, select, and specify instrumentation and controls required to monitor, operate and control mechanical, process, and electrical systems.
  • Provide input on / develop P&ID’s.
  • Produce logic diagrams, control narratives (sequence of operations) and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop instrument index and panel drawings.
  • Interpret and apply codes, job procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Interface with other design disciplines.
  • Provide field assistance as required.
  • Monitor and review on-site installation, start-up and operation of instrumentation and controls.
  • Perform inspections of equipment as required.
  • Specify and evaluate network systems related to client FMS system and the interface with other systems.
  • Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of project and/or department goals.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 6-8
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Associates Degree in Engineering, Design or related field a plus.
  • Minimum of ten years design experience in Instrument Controls.
  • Ability to lead projects.
  • Understanding of the PLC network, PLC components utilized in the specification of PLC panels and interface with existing FMS systems and the I/O diagrams and structured cable schedule.
  • Intermediate to excellent computer skills with MS Windows XP, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Effective communication and impromptu problem solving skills.
  • Ability to follow through in a self-motivated fashion.
  • Ability to work in a cost-effective, customer-focused, team-based environment.
  • Understanding and skills in assessing a customer’s requirements/needs in the field.
  • Mechanical or Chemical Knowledge is a plus.
  • Revit experience required.
