SSOE Group and DeMaria Building Company Team Together to Build Cogeneration System for Veterans Affairs Medical Center

TOLEDO, Ohio, January 5, 2012 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an international engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm, along with their design build partner DeMaria Building Company, announce that they have been selected for an 800 KW cogeneration system to be located at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The new natural gas fired co-generation system will use combustion turbine generators along with a waste heat boiler to provide both steam and electricity to the campus of 14 buildings totaling 1,200,000 SF. The proposed system will be located adjacent to the existing Energy Center and will be able to provide operator initiated automatic start-up and shutdown of the system. Steam will be used for heating, reheating, and sterilization and the electricity generated from this cogeneration unit will be fed into the VA’s power system. Read more

United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Working with SSOE Group to Decrease Environmental Impact of Test Facility

Known as the Turbine Engine Dry Air Capability (TEDAC) program, the goal of the project is to replace the existing refrigeration systems to help reduce the facility’s dependency on trichloroethylene and R12 refrigerant, while improving reliability and maintainability. Clients Who are Saving the World

Wonder whatever happened to the students who won awards at the science fair every year? No doubt some of them grew up to be researchers at places like the EPA, and are now discovering ways to make the environment healthier. Some are working at SSOE on projects that support the EPA by improving their facilities.

The mission of the EPA’s Ecosystems Research Division in Athens, Georgia is to protect human health and the environment. The research includes analyzing our drinking water, developing better ways to clean up contaminated land in nearby neighborhoods, and identifying exactly what is leaking out of fuel tanks and into the ground at your local filling station. In Athens, as in many other EPA locations nationwide, SSOE focused on making their facilities more energy efficient, secure and environmentally friendly. As part of assessing the current condition of their facilities, we estimated the cost of implementing improvements and provided a phased implementation plan.
