TOLEDO, Ohio, September 13, 2018 — As Hurricane Florence bears down on the eastern coast of the U.S., the American Red Cross is ready to respond across as many as 11 states. This storm is expected to bring strong winds, catastrophic flooding, life threatening tidal surges, and power outages to many areas along the east coast.

Currently, the Red Cross has urgent response preparations going on in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. As many as 100,000 people may need emergency shelter, and the Red Cross is working with state and local officials to support evacuation centers now.
