The Brentwood office sadly reports the sudden passing of friend and colleague Ed Killgore, 69, on Wednesday, July 28th. Ed joined the SSOE Facilities Mechanical Department nine years ago and has shared his vast wealth of knowledge and experience on industrial projects ever since. His multi-talents and cheery presence will be greatly missed by SSOE.
Seldom in the A/E business do we get the opportunity to work on both sides of the table with the people we encounter. Ed Killgore was such a person. He was first a client of SSOE at the GM Saturn facility [now Spring Hill Manufacturing] as part of the facilities engineering staff. After over 40 years of construction experience with GM, Ed retired and he soon became an SSOE employee in 2001.
In the nine years that Ed spent at SSOE, his duties ranged from proposals to design to construction administration. His knowledge of plant construction and manufacturing processes was tremendously valuable for new projects. Few engineers understand each discipline well enough to cross-check design drawings, but Ed applied that skill on numerous projects. Dealing with contracts and construction issues, advising legal teams, start-up of projects, safety inspections, project close-out; the list of things that Ed did at SSOE was quite extensive. Whatever the challenge, Ed was a “go-to” guy.
Edgar Killgore, Sr. leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Mary, as well as seven children, five grandchildren, and many other family members. Ed was very active in his church, the Lewisburg First Assembly of God, and in the Spring Hill Rotary Club. His funeral will be held in his hometown of Lewisburg, TN, on Friday, July 30th, with a final service and burial on Saturday in West Memphis, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, a coordinated donation is being planned in Ed’s memory. Please contact John Pittman in the Brentwood office for more information.
