Toledo, OH, April 08, 2009 – SSOE, one of the nation’s largest architecture and engineering firms, is proud to welcome Zach Platsis, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Specialist, to their recently formed Sustainable and Renewable Solutions group. He specializes in sustainability planning as well as the selection and implementation of alternative energy technologies, including solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and fuel cells.
In his new role, Platsis will lead sustainability audits, implement conservation projects, evaluate emerging renewable energy technology, and assist clients as they apply for applicable energy efficiency grants and incentives.
Platsis comes to SSOE as a Senior Project Engineer from NextEnergy Center (NEC), a Michigan-based research catalyst and business accelerator for alternative and renewable energy. There, he was responsible for delivering alternative energy projects for the State of Michigan, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy. In that capacity he delivered a Mobile Renewable Energy Power system and Advanced Power electronics and control systems for alternative energy integration. Platsis’ responsibilities also included operations and planning activities for NEC’s Microgrid Power Pavilion and Alternative Fuels Testing Platform. He has also held research and engineering posts in Wayne State University’s Physics and Astronomy department and at the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering.

Platsis has provided technical expertise for the development of proposals for congressional appropriations, state energy efficiency grants, and university fuel cell research laboratory development, in addition to collaborating on alternative energy papers and presentations. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan and his Graduate Certificate in Alternative Energy Technology from Wayne State University.
