Position Summary

SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson is seeking an architectural thought leader to continue the growth of the firm into a preeminent design partner to the Midwest healthcare market. This position is principal-tracked and based in the Detroit/Toledo-metro area. The opportunity is part of a continued strategic investment that SSOE is making to strengthen and grow the architecturally based design practice, including the recent acquisition of 100-year-old Atlanta-based design firm Stevens & Wilkinson to enhance our architectural brand, portfolio, and resources. This position will be part of the practice-level leadership team and will be given the resources needed to expand our existing healthcare client base. Business development, client management, and overall team vision/leadership are necessary qualities. The Architectural Principal / Business Leader (Healthcare) will be responsible for leadership of the healthcare practice design team and practice group. Responsibilities will include business development, client development/ management, and overall team leadership.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads overall client maintenance, client contact and business development activities, and the development of proposals.
  • Provides the vision and project control to ensure client goals are being delivered.
  • Provides oversight of project work and helps to develop overall workload schedules for department and project staff.
  • Ensures the technical competency and quality of work performed and may be required to seal discipline documents
  • Directly accountable for adherence to timetable and financial success of projects.
  • Monitors, directs, coordinates, facilitates, and supervises department personnel
  • Travel required.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 8+

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor or master’s degree required along with a minimum of 10 years of experience within an architectural practice. Must be registered architect (RA).
  • Strong background in the design of healthcare facilities.
  • Flexibility to work with a variety of healthcare project types on multiple, concurrent projects in various stages of development.
  • This position will be integral to the strategic growth of our healthcare division. We’re looking for a candidate with current relationships with clients and a proven history of developing new relationships on a local and regional level.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, technical, written, and verbal communication skills. An experienced, highly motivated, self-directed professional with a hands-on attitude and the ability to work with a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

  • Basic familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD design software and strong knowledge of building codes, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other design / regulatory requirements.
