Position Summary

The Mexico Section Manager will be part of SSOE’s Mexico’s core leadership team. Reporting directly to the Mexico Operations Manager, the section Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of our CSA (Civil, Structural, Architect) and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Piping) team in Leon. With our diverse staff of employees, and significant growth planned over the next 5 years, the Section Manager will play a key role in delivering quality projects to our clients.

The Section Manager will oversee all employees, project coordination, and quality control.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaches, directs, coordinates, facilitates and supervises MEP or CSA section personnel. This includes all employment and employee relations activities such as: assisting in making hiring recommendations, managing career plans, coaching on performance issues, and assisting Operations and Division Manager in salary administration, bonus administration, talent reviews, etc
  • On-board new hires
  • Ensures the technical competency and quality of work performed by staff.
  • Supports Operations and Division Manager with customer maintenance and business development activities and assists project managers in preparing proposals
  • Works with project Managers to ensure discipline budgets and resource plans are being managed on projects
  • Review and modify discipline work plan for each project
  • Final Review (after quality checkers) discipline drawings, model and work for each project (technical review of construction documents). This includes final review and coordination, along with the Project Manager, of construction documents.
  • Lead role for the quality program for design and development, making sure that the staff are following quality procedures, and implementing reviews and checks that assure a better outcome to our services.
  • Plans control and manage workload assignments on resources to each project needs. SM will be responsible for the correct balance of workload. Will be expected to provide regular workforce planning reports to Operations Manager for review
  • Reviews and approves Team’s leader project change orders prior to submitting to Project Manager
  • Prepares and monitors project work schedules and projected workload schedules for department
  • Provides staffing and resources such that the Team’s leader can meet project requirements.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses of section personnel to identify and prioritize training needs. Develops and implements section training program with the assistance of the Learning and Development Department.
  • Support to the Operation manager and HR department of implement and application of corrective action programs for staff facing performance issues.
  • Responsible for section employee relations activities with the assistance of the Human Resources Department
  • The Section Manager will also be responsible for maintaining billable work. Target utilization would be 60%

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 8+
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the engineering or construction industries
  • 5+ years serving as Project Manager in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Must be bi-lingual (written and spoken with the English and Spanish languages.
  • Must be willing to travel. Expect travel to be around 20% and will consist of day trips, occasional overnight trips in Mexico and occasional international travel to the United States.
  • Must have direct experience in developing others
  • Must be willing to live/relocate to Leon, GTO.
  • Previous experience with EPCM project delivery a plus
  • Previous experience with lean project delivery a plus
  • Must be an advocate for technology on projects. Previous experience with Revit or BIM360 a plus.
