Position Summary

SSOE is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our Troy, MI office location. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter and have 8+ years of experience working with industrial facilities. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for detailed phases of engineering work on major projects or total engineering work on projects of smaller or moderate scope.

Mentoring of junior staff is essential in this role. As a senior-level Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have the rewarding opportunity to share all that you’ve learned throughout the years with the next generation of talent and thought leaders at SSOE.

Candidate must hold a PE license or be eligible to hold a PE license within 12 months of hire.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proven ability to lead mechanical engineers/designers in multi-discipline projects, including HVAC, Plumbing & Piping Design.
  • Use strong communication skills to serve as primary mechanical contact with project managers and automotive clients, especially Ford, GM & FCA.
  • The ability to design other mechanical processes, utilities, and facility equipment is a plus.
  • Design knowledge of steam and Hydronic piping systems, design of pipe supports.
  • Mentoring of junior engineers and designers.
  • Capability to develop design estimates and budgets for the mechanical portion of a project.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 8+
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgable with pipe stress analysis software such as AutoPipe or Caeser.
  • Familiar with Michigan Mechanical, Plumbing & FP codes. ASME Boiler/Unfired Vessels Codes.
  • Must be familiar with pipe design and analysis in accordance with B31.1 and B31.3, including pipe supports in accordance with MSS-SP-58/69.
  • Experience with HVAC load calculation software (Trane Trace, HAP, Carrier).
  • Professional Engineering registration is required.
