Position Summary

The BIM2Fab™ Steel Team is looking for a Project Manager/ Estimator. If you have mastered Steel Detailing, have owned a project, and lead a project team, from start to finish and want to take your career to the next level, this could be the answer.

SSOE’s Project Managers lead and support projects that range from advanced technology, automotive facilities, healthcare to energy, chemical, food and telecommunication, The size of our projects in these industries range in size, scope and complexity; no two projects are alike and each will bring its own unique challenge and solution.

After each of our projects, our project teams take a look back at what was good and what can we learn from on each project, to ensure we are always providing the client with the best possible experience. Using 70 years’ experience is how SSOE has arrived at our current project processes, procedures and best practices for excellent total project delivery.

Our senior-level PMs are required to have the PMP Certification because we are dedicated to the PMP principles and practices. Our seasoned project teams use a collaborative series of tools to achieve total project delivery specific to the project’s scope and client goals, including systematic reporting, QC and lessons learned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates steel projects of all sizes-small, medium, and large size.
  • Directly accountable for adherence to timetable and financial success of the project.
  • Responsible for preparation of estimates, fee proposal, and contract negotiations DETAILING SPECIFIC with the client with input from Principle In Charge.
  • Establishes project scope of work in coordination with Discipline Captains and Department Managers including planning of work, design concepts/design direction, determining discipline type and amount of tasks to be performed, communicates to DM staff capabilities to fit specific project needs.
  • Prepares the plan, establishes control procedures, monitors progress, and takes corrective action as may be required.
  • Prepares project budget and work schedule to serve as a “measuring stick” of progress.
  • Develops a budget for “out-of-pocket” expenses for projects.
  • Follows established procedures to effectively administer project (i.e., construction cost estimating, correspondence, document control, etc.).
  • Reviews and approves client billings.
  • Communicates client requirements to each discipline.
  • Monitors progress of project, reviews work accomplished and monitors construction budget costs.
  • Contracts for outside consultants/services as needed.
  • Responsible for the collection of past due amounts with assistance from the Principal In Charge, or accounting as needed.
  • Follows established procedures to effectively administer project (i.e., construction cost estimating, correspondence, document control, etc.).
  • This role has possibilities and potential to evolve into responsibilities in contracting, coordinating, and managing steel fabricators, steel erectors, and steel package material suppliers to deliver steel package solutions to our clients.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 3-5
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Engineering preferred or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Five years experience, in the design and construction industry, with at least 2 years in Project Management.
  • Applicable registration, including CAPM or PMP Certification, are highly preferred.
  • May travel to other SSOE facilities and/or client locations for coordination purposes or to provide training.
  • May assist in the training or mentoring of other Project Managers to familiarize them with SSOE or the client-specific requirements.
  • Participates in client contact and business development activities.
  • Due to the travel associated with this role, a valid driver’s license and the ability to qualify for our corporate automotive insurance is required.
  • Follows established change management procedures to document and receive authorization for project change orders in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates meetings and establishes all paper flow and document control with client, contractors, regulatory agencies and others involved.
