Position Summary

SSOE is currently looking for a mid-level structural engineer to join our growing structural design team. Projects will vary in size and scope but will include industrial, manufacturing, commercial, and institutional projects. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks as well as commercially available structural analysis and design software packages including STAAD, RISA 3D, RAM Structural System, and RAM Elements is required.

This role is open for consider for the following office locations: Brentwood, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; Huntsville, Alabama.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead structural teams on projects of moderate size and complexity given compressed design schedules.
  • Perform engineering calculations by hand or utilizing structural analysis and design software for both new and existing building projects.
  • Delegate and review work of other engineers.
  • Review structural shop drawings and submittals.
  • Model, analyze, and design complex steel and concrete structures including 2D elements and 3D models according to customer requirements and standard practices for construction documents.
  • Collect information from all available sources in order to prepare accurate and complete designs and drawings.
  • Organize, produce, and coordinate construction documents using 2D and 3D BIM / CAD software.
  • Review and edit project specifications.
  • Visit project site to verify existing field conditions and / or provide on-site support.
  • Due to the travel involved in this role, a valid U.S. driver’s license and the ability to qualify for company’s insurance is required.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree / DIRECT / 3-5
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; master’s degree preferred.
  • PE license required in home state with ability to obtain reciprocal licenses in other states.
  • Experience with analysis and design of structural steel and concrete structures of significant complexity utilizing structural analysis and design software and AutoCAD Revit.
  • Good working knowledge of model building codes, AISC and ACI material codes, and other referenced standards.
  • Ability to fully utilize and leverage BIM / CAD software including AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Ability to work well and be a contributor in a dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to complete a project from start to finish.
