Position Summary

SSOE is currently searching for a Structural Section Manager to assist in leading our growing structural design team. Projects vary in size and will include Industrial, Manufacturing, Commercial and Institutional projects. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit & Navisworks as well as commercially available structural analysis & design software packages including STAAD, RISA 3D, RAM Structural System & RAM Elements is required. Good organizational skills and excellent verbal & written communication skills are essential in order to ensure success in this dynamic position.

This role is open for consider for the following office locations: Brentwood, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; Huntsville, Alabama.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct Structural Engineering staff, including both Engineers and CAD/BIM Designers.
  • Will execute project work in compliance with Building & Material Codes, Standards and best practices and in accordance with the defined project execution plan, budget and schedule.
  • Work closely with Structural Department Manager to make staffing assignments based on talent and workload within the Section as well as the overall Department.
  • Administer the defined Quality Management procedures on all project work including performing Peer Reviews, Quality Control Reviews and other activities as required to result in consistent high-quality work product.
  • Will participate in various project tasks as needed.
  • Tasks include structural analysis and design utilizing various commercially available structural software packages.
  • Will review of BIM models, preparation of design drawings & specifications, review of shop drawings & submittals, perform site visits & structural jobs.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree
8+ years experience
OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (MS preferred).
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license in home state (SE preferred) with ability to obtain reciprocal licenses in other states if required.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Code, Material Standards, Load Standards and other design standards & criteria used on new building and renovation/retrofit projects.
  • Knowledge of design and detailing requirements for buildings and structures subjected to high-wind and high-seismic loads.
  • Familiarity with analysis & design of structures assigned to Seismic Design Category D is preferred.
  • Ability to utilize CAD/BIM tools including AutoCAD, Revit, Microstation and Navisworks to produce, coordinate and review project work (drawings & BIM models).
  • Proven ability to manage project work and staff, make critical decisions and execute in a dynamic and fast-moving environment are essential for success in this position.
  • Solid organizational skills. Also excellent verbal & written communication skills.
