SSOE Group Announces Employee Licensures and Certifications for Third Quarter of Planning Year 2023

TOLEDO, Ohio, July 26, 2023 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, announced today that 18 of its employees earned professional certifications during the third quarter of SSOE’s 2023 planning year. Attainment of professional licensures and certifications is strongly encouraged at SSOE. The company covers the expense of preparation classes and exam fees as well as provides paid time off to take the exam. As an added incentive, once an employee has passed an exam, they are awarded a recognition bonus. ­­­­ ­­­­

Licensures

Professional Engineer

To become a professional engineer (PE), an individual must meet statutory requirements, including completion of a 4-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of acceptable work experience. Licensure is awarded upon successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam, which measures an individual’s academic and practical knowledge of technical engineering.

Bryce Allen, PE, Mechanical Engineer, recently earned his professional engineering license. Bryce has 5 years of experience and works in SSOE’s Nashville, Tennessee office supporting the firm’s Facilities operations.

Joseph Ducharme, PE, Mechanical Engineer, recently earned his professional engineering license. A Montana State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Joseph has 5 years of experience and works in SSOE’s Portland, Oregon office supporting the firm’s Advanced Technology (AT) operations.

Andrew Skywark, PE, Electrical Engineer, recently earned his professional engineering license. A Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of experience, Andrew works in SSOE’s Portland, Oregon office and supports the firm’s Advanced Technology (AT) operations.

Registered Architect

To become a registered architect (RA), an individual must have a professional degree from an NAAB-accredited program and complete the Intern Development Program (IDP). The IDP is approximately 3 years of on-the-job experience consisting of training units in 16 different categories, such as programming, site and environmental analysis, construction documents, specifications and materials research, and project management. Licensure is awarded upon successful completion of the Architect Registration Exam (ARE), which evaluates an individual’s knowledge, skills, and ability to provide the various services required in the practice of architecture.

Girmay Berhie, RA, LEED AP BD+C, Architect, recently became a registered architect. An Addis Ababa University and Texas Tech University graduate with a Bachelor and Master of Architecture, respectively, Girmay works in SSOE’s Columbia, South Carolina office. With more than 20 years of experience, he supports the firm’s Building Design Group operations.

Certifications

Project Management Professional (PMP)

PMP® certification, awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI), indicates that an individual possesses the knowledge and skill necessary to lead and direct project teams, and delivers project results within the constraints of schedule, budget, and resources.

Luis Tamayo, PMP, Project Manager in Austin, Texas recently earned his Project Management Professional certification.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Certification

To receive OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach certification, an individual must complete the 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Course. This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry, but more specifically devised for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors and provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. SSOE requires the OSHA 30-hour certification for all field and startup employees.

Brian Cottrell, Structural Designer in Nashville, Tennessee, recently earned his OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry certification.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Certification

To receive Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Construction Industry certification, an individual must complete the 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program, which is intended to provide an entry-level construction worker with general awareness of recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. SSOE requires the OSHA 10-hour certification for all technical employees.

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry

To maintain a healthy and safe work environment, OSHA recommends employees in various industries participate in workplace safety training. OSHA Education Center created this online course to address specific regulations as they apply to the General Industry and help you meet your workplace training requirements and receive your OSHA 10 card.

Sari Khoury, PE, PMP, Senior Project Manager and Kim Knight, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Electrical Engineer in Troy, Michigan, recently earned both their OSHA 10-Hour General and Construction Industry certifications.

Andrew Marburger, Process Engineering in Midland, Michigan as well as Diego Arellano and Daniel Villalobos Anaya Electrical Engineers in León, Mexico, recently earned their OSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification.

Skyler Moore, Electrical Engineering in Chandler, Arizona, Jon Stamnitz, Structural Engineering in Nashville, Tennessee, Danny Walters, Senior Project Management in Toledo, Ohio, and Roxana Orduna, Architect in León, Mexico, recently earned their OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry certification.

Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)

This certification is for HR professionals functioning at the operational level performing duties such as implementing HR policies, supporting day-to-day HR functions, or serving as an HR point of contact for staff and/or stakeholders. Based on a core set of competency and knowledge principles outlined in the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge® (SHRM BoCK®), the SHRM-CP, and the SHRM-SCP certifications provide credential holders with a roadmap for achieving vital outcomes leading to personal and organizational success.

Garrett Ross, Senior HR Generalist in Portland, Oregon, and Jaclyn Sawasky, HR Generalist in Toledo, Ohio, recently earned their SHRM-SCP certification.

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is generally your first step in the process to becoming a professional licensed engineer (PE). It is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program.

Paige Sedgwick, Process Engineering in Portland, Oregon, recently earned her Fundamentals of Engineering certification.
