TOLEDO, Ohio, April 7, 2026 — SSOE Group, an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, has been awarded the Cancer Screening Excellence Award by the Ohio Department of Health, recognizing the firm’s commitment to employee wellbeing as a core business priority. The recognition follows SSOE’s near-perfect Platinum Healthy Worksite designation from the Healthy Business Council of Ohio, earned in November 2025, and reflects a sustained, organization-wide strategy focused on employee health education and prevention rather than reactive care.
“At a time when people are returning to normalcy post pandemic, prevention is one of the most meaningful investments we can make,” said Employee Benefits Manager Debra Morgan. “They say your health is priceless, and it truly is; good health is one of the few things that cannot be bought or guaranteed. SSOE’s recognition reflects our larger belief that benefits are not simply perks, but an essential component of supporting employees’ long-term success.”
Aligning with National Cancer Control Month
April is National Cancer Control Month, a national observance focused on reducing cancer risk and improving outcomes through prevention, early detection, routine screenings, and education. Cancer remains one of the most prevalent health challenges in the United States, with nearly four in ten Americans diagnosed during their lifetime. Screening is part of a broader preventive-care framework designed to encourage regular engagement with healthcare providers and empower informed decision-making.
Prevention as a Foundation, Not a One-Time Initiative
Presented in partnership with the Healthy Business Council of Ohio, the Cancer Screening Excellence Aw
ard honors Ohio employers that actively promote cancer prevention, early detection, routine screenings, and education around risk factors. SSOE was recognized for embedding these priorities into its benefits design, communications, and workplace culture.
“SSOE’s approach to wellbeing centers on removing barriers to care and supporting employees long before health concerns become urgent. Rather than relying solely on annual enrollment, SSOE intentionally meets their employees and their families where they are digitally, direct mail, or one-on-one meetings via year‑round benefits communication,” said Brad Rowe, Senior Vice President, People & Culture. “These efforts include onboarding, a centralized benefits portal, monthly benefit spotlights, lunch‑and‑learn sessions, and personalized Total Rewards Statements outlining each employee’s benefits and compensation—helping employees understand not only what resources are available, but how and when to use them.”
That framework includes:
- Expanded medical coverage, including 100% employer-funded in-network preventive care and Expert Cancer Review (ECR) second‑opinion services through Sun Life at no additional cost.
- Employer-funded HSA that help offset out-of-pocket costs.
- A comprehensive Wellness Works program encouraging healthy habits through interactive competitions, etc.
- Telehealth services that provide convenient 24/7 access to non-emergency care, preventive guidance, prescription support, and referrals to in‑network physicians for specialty services.
