Creating a new headquarters building for the Georgia Department of Public Safety required a solution that enables DPS’s mission by providing spaces that are highly functional, adaptable, and supportive of the organization, one built on a legacy of tradition, with a dynamic team-oriented culture. The new headquarters project includes a four-and-a-half-story building that expresses DPS’s rich history, professionalism, and excellence. Adjacent to the new building is a 200-space parking deck that is cut into a steep slope allowing for unobstructed views from the building.
The project is located on the existing state campus on United Avenue. The project also includes a new entrance gate and front lawn that is respectful of the surrounding Grant Park context and neighborhood. Care has been taken to be contextual while also providing a robust and secure fence line that helps to secure the campus which also includes facilities for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
The new headquarters provides staff with office and training spaces that are light and bright, with warm woods that are refreshing, comfortable, and user-friendly, environments that convey a sense of calm and control. Visitors and guests will encounter these welcoming spaces beginning with a lobby that includes exhibits and artifacts demonstrating how DPS exemplifies excellence in Georgia. The program includes a 150-seat auditorium, training room, a wide variety of conference rooms, all supporting office suites for the department which includes the Divisions of the Georgia State Patrol, Motor Carrier Compliance, and DPS Command Staff.
Metal panels, Georgia granite accents, glass, and spandrel glass are used to accentuate the entrance and public spaces while addressing the views and access to natural light through the building. The high function and adaptable floor plates allow for a future rearrangement that will help to “future-proof” the facility as a long-term asset for the state. The project also includes a new memorial honoring fallen troopers.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety consists of a 98,000 square foot building with a 200-car parking garage located in downtown Atlanta. The project will include a memorial honoring fallen troops, office and training areas, 150-seat auditorium, flexible conference rooms, and unobstructed views of the neighboring campus.

SSOE is currently piloting software that puts a copilot engine in Revit. Using Natural Language Processing (NLP) we can prompt Revit activities such as cleaning up parameter data, annotation, dimensions, sheets and then can share and deploy automations to co-workers in different workspaces within a project. Transforms traditional process of scripts >> write the code, execute command upon an SME directing. (see transcript)
Github Copilot we’re deploying with our Software Development Community so they can utilize a NLP interface and access Github enterprise knowledge to expedite advance coding. https://github.com/features/copilot – gives them the ability to utilize an agent to help with “manual” process of writing code that then they can polish, make happen.
We helped our client visualize and optimize façade design for occupant comfort—long before breaking ground through the use of the Autodesk Forma tool. It allows the designer to rapidly experiment with the building’s geometry and façade design to discover the most suitable form, prioritizing quality of spaces and comfort for end uses, especially in extreme climates (daylighting and microclimate analysis tools) at the project’s exact geographic location, using location-specific environmental data.
SSOE is utilizing Microsoft Copilot to significantly enhance work efficiency and accuracy across various departments. Copilot is accessible to all staff after training. Key areas of application include using it as a writing assistant, for idea generation, document summarization and generation, research assistant, excel assistant, programming code assistant, language translations, product comparison and data analysis. Use of Copilot has become part of the everyday life of SSOE employees who have identified key ways it can help them become more efficient with their daily tasks as well as more accurate in their deliverables.
75% of SSOE employees have taken the training / have access to Copilot with a goal of 100% by the end of PY25.
We found ourselves in need of a more robust tool to enhance resource forecasting and staff assignment capabilities. Instead of waiting for the perfect tool, we’re building it. SSOE’s in-house technology team has developed and piloted a tool that aims to forecast optimal staff mix and duration for new projects against existing workload to better understand capacity and manage resources efficiently. Additionally, the tool will allow teams to estimate staff requirements and identify gaps.
