Happy Holidays to our Clients, Colleagues, and Communities!
2023 marked SSOE’s 75th anniversary and we’re excited to share some holiday cheer as we wrap up a year full of celebration.
We have so much to be thankful for and we’re showing our gratitude to you, our valued clients, with the gift of giving.
Along with a great deal of celebration comes a sense of humility and gratitude as we recognize those who’ve made SSOE who we are today—our clients, colleagues, and communities. That’s why we’ve committed to giving our time and talents to serve the communities in which we live and work.
Our employees engage in a wide range of organizations and activities that enrich the lives of those in our communities such as:
- Working at food banks and helping to prepare and serve meals to those less fortunate.
- Coaching youth sports.
- Working with struggling children and teens though life-changing camps and mentoring clubs.
- Caring for homeless animals.
- Working with the United Way to build hygiene kits and pack backpacks with school supplies.
We raised our volunteerism goal in 2023 and our employees stepped up to the challenge!
SSOE rewards employees who perform 20 hours of volunteerism with a $100 donation to the organization of their choice each year. This past year, in recognition of our 75th anniversary, we challenged our employees to volunteer a total of 7,500 hours. To sweeten the deal, we committed to donating $7,500 to a charity selected by our employees once our goal was achieved. Our employees stepped up in a big way, logging a total of 8,045 hours!
As promised, in recognition of our employees’ contributions, SSOE is excited to announce we made a $7,500 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude provides life-saving care and treatment to children as well as meals, lodging, and support services for their families. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the holiday season than supporting these children and their families.
We’ve also been working to cultivate interest in and access to STEM careers for our youth and historically underrepresented groups in our industry.
- As part of our 75th anniversary celebration, we sponsored a “Building the Future” contest, where SSOE employees and retirees nominated Mom’s House to receive an Imagination Playground.
- We hosted our annual “Engineer for a Day” program across multiple SSOE locations. The program allows high school students to get firsthand experience from a team of engineers and technical experts.
- We’re working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country to broaden our recruitment horizons and have recently awarded our very first HBCU scholarship to a student attending Tennessee State University.
- We continue to sponsor and participate in many events across the country such as the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) We Local conference in Seattle, Washington, the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Atlanta’s Project Pipeline, and the Diversity Equity Access Inclusion (DEAI) Alliance of Northwest Ohio’s Diversity Expo Summit, to name a few.
- We launched our A Blueprint for Equity podcast, which is dedicated to exploring challenges, uncovering opportunities, and celebrating successes surrounding DEI in the AEC and related industries.
SSOE is happy to share a cup of cheer this holiday season and the whole year through!
Warm wishes to the clients, colleagues, and communities we hold most dear.
