TOLEDO, Ohio, November 10, 2025 — In recognition of National STEM Day, SSOE Group’s six Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) deliver tangible impact by exemplifying SSOE’s Diversity Commitment, “Diverse in Thought, United in Action.”

Formed in 2023 and expanded in 2024, SSOE’s ERGs were designed to celebrate individuality and amplify the unique contributions of employees across gender, culture, faith, orientation, and career stage. Today, one in seven employees actively participates in an ERG, making inclusion a cornerstone of SSOE’s culture. The firm’s current ERGs include:

  • BLACC – (est. 2023), an acronym for Black Leaders and Collaborative Changemakers
  • PRIDE – (est. 2023), an acronym for People Respecting Identities, Diversity, and Equality
  • SWAN – (est. 2023), an acronym for SSOE Women and Allies Network
  • ¡HoLA! – (est. 2024), an acronym for Hispanic and Latin Allies
  • HYPE – (est. 2024), an acronym for Helping Young Professionals Excel
  • The Interfaith Alliance – (est. 2024) connect individuals across various religious and faith-based and spiritual spectrums

While each ERG champions belonging in their own way, this year they united around a shared foundation: STEM. For the first time, all six ERGs collaborated toward one initiative, pooling their resources to collectively contribute $10,000 to Building Blocks 2 Success (BB2S), a Portland-based nonprofit dedicated to opening doors to STEM education for underrepresented youth.

“Belonging is built by design,” said Candice Harrison, Director of Inclusion and Community Impact. “Our ERGs demonstrate that the same collaboration and creativity we apply to the built environment can be intentionally mirrored to build equitable environments—where inclusion is something you can see, touch, and build on.”

SSOE’s contribution will enable BB2S to support multiple students in hands-on STEM programs, mentorship, and career pathways, creating opportunities that transcend barriers of background, identity, or circumstance and inspire a future in science, technology, engineering, and math.

“Innovation is advancing across every industry, but especially STEM fields. Underrepresented youth deserve access to that future,” said Antonio Jackson, Executive Director of Building Blocks 2 Success. “It is with the help of SSOE, BB2S can include underrepresented youth in the future, not just as witnesses of innovation; but as contributors and leaders of it.”

A Stitch in Time Saves Nine

BB2S is based on the premise that exposure to STEM education better positions students for higher wage and high demand occupations thus leading to economic prosperity and contributing to the vibrancy of communities of color across Portland. Just as BB2S, the firm nurtures inclusion at a societal level through our lifecycle approach, addressing inclusion at every stage, from education to employment.

“This year, we enhanced our company vision: Imagining and creating the future with our clients, colleagues, and communities. It’s not just a statement on the wall; it’s a proactive effort,” said Vince DiPofi, SSOE’s CEO. “The choices we make today, how we design, who we include, where we invest, are already shaping tomorrow. The future isn’t ahead of us; it’s built in. This ERG-led initiative reflects that exactly. Creating access for youth to imagine their futures in STEM is the kind of built inclusion and intention we bring to the future.”

ACC AI Assistant

Accelerating Project Clarity with AI-Driven Specification Search

Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is SSOE’s enterprise-wide project delivery platform. We partner with the Autodesk Product team and have research access. Use of the AI Assistant allows our design teams, owners, and general contractors the ability to query the project specifications for quality, answers, and more rapid responses to RFIs, submittals, or issues.

AI Knowledge Retention

Lessons learned shouldn’t disappear when people move on

SSOE has developed a proof-of-concept to use an AI Agent to act as a Master Engineer and Architect trained in SSOE’s processes, best-known-methods, and trainings. Our data structure is being remodeled to enable better use of our proprietary knowledge to train the agent on the ‘SSOE way’.

Agentic Automation

Empowering Teams with AI-Driven Workflows

SSOE is actively piloting AI Chat large language models (LLMs) or copilots that use Natural Language Processing (NLP) to streamline both design and development tasks, transforming how our teams interact with software and each other.

By integrating chat LLM engines into platforms like Revit, we’re enabling users to prompt complex actions using simple, conversational commands. In Revit, this means automating tasks such as modeling elements, cleaning up parameter data, managing annotations and dimensions, and organizing sheets—without writing scripts. These automations and quality prompts can be shared across project teams, accelerating workflows and reducing manual effort.

Similarly, our internal Software Development Community is leveraging GitHub Copilot to expedite coding tasks. Developers can generate and refine code using NLP prompts, tapping into GitHub’s extensive Repo to move faster from concept to implementation.

Together, these tools represent a shift from traditional, expert-driven scripting to intuitive, AI-assisted automation, unlocking new levels of efficiency and scalability across our projects.

Autodesk Forma

Early-stage design modeling in extreme climates

We helped our client visualize and optimize façade design for occupant comfort—long before breaking ground through the use of the Autodesk Forma tool. It allows the designer to rapidly experiment with the building’s geometry and façade design to promote sustainability, prioritizing quality of spaces and comfort for end uses, especially in extreme climates (daylighting and microclimate analysis tools) at the project’s exact geographic location, using location-specific environmental data.

Microsoft Copilot

Empowering our teams with everyday AI

SSOE is utilizing Microsoft Copilot Edge and M365 to significantly enhance work efficiency and accuracy across various departments. Copilot is accessible to all staff after training. Key areas of application include using it as a writing assistant, for idea generation, document summarization and generation, research assistant, excel assistant, programming code assistant, language translations, product comparison and data analysis. Use of Copilot has become part of the everyday life of SSOE employees who have identified key ways it can help them become more efficient with their daily tasks as well as more accurate in their deliverables.

Today, 100% of SSOE employees have taken the voluntary training and have access to Copilot Edge, achieving early our October 1, 2025 goal.

In-House Resource Planning Tool

A solution to one of the AEC industry’s toughest challenges

We found ourselves in need of a more robust tool to enhance resource forecasting and staff assignment capabilities. Instead of waiting for the perfect tool, we’re building it. SSOE’s in-house technology team has developed and piloted a tool that aims to forecast optimal staff mix and duration for new projects against existing workload to better understand capacity and manage resources efficiently. Additionally, the tool will allow teams to identify gaps to optimal staff mix.
